I was born in Seoul, Korea to an Army family. How do I get a copy of my birth certificate?
I need a certified copy of my birth abroad. My dad was in the US Army and I was born in a Korean hospital. How do I go about getting a certified copy of my birth certificate?

Well as far as I know, there really isn’t a “birth certificate” like they have here in the United States. I was born in Busan, South Korea myself and all they give you is “congratulations, YOUR BORN!” in which when I was applying for US citizen, the guys were like “what the heck”.

Is there anyway to get it? Do they send it through mail or (probably not…) anything?

You can request it either from the state’s bureau of vital statistics or from the county seat in which you were born. It is usually cheaper and faster to get it from the county of your birth unless you were born in a really big county. Either way – look up the address for both online. There is a fee but the website will tell you how much it is. You (actually your mother) mail the check or money order or whatever to the address with a request for the birth certificate.

Im going into the army, and i need a copy of my sons social security card and his birth certificate but his mother refuses to let me use it for a form that i am filling out for the army. Where can i go and get a copy of my own?

You can always write to the county clerk’s office for a certified copy of the birth certificate. If you ever lived with your son and claimed him as a dependent you have his social security # on your copy of your tax returns. Call 1-800-772-1213 and see what you need to do to get another social security card for your son – if you can get it at all. Did you tell his mother why it’s needed – I don’t mean for the form but what the form is for?
